Organising weddings in Tuscany, especially from abroad, can be overwhelming. That’s why I’ve created this guide – to help you navigate the process and find your dream wedding venue in Tuscany without the stress. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate wedding in a rustic villa or a luxurious celebration in on of the amazing historic estates, there is no shortage of stunning wedding locations.
FAQ – Getting Married in Tuscany
1. How far in advance do Tuscany venues book out?
For peak dates in Tuscany (especially May, June, September), many sought-after venues are typically reserved 12–18 months in advance . Sometimes longer for iconic properties or Saturdays. If you’re flexible (weekday, shoulder season, smaller guest count), you can often find excellent options with 6–12 months lead time.
2. Do we need a planner in Tuscany?
It’s not legally required but for most destination weddings it’s strongly recommended. A local planner or someone who is experienced with destination weddings helps with vendor coordination, contracts, timelines, logistics, and language/regional specifics, especially for a wedding weekend with multiple events. If you’re doing a very small celebration at a venue that provides a strong in-house coordinator and you’re comfortable managing details, you can plan it yourself — it’s just more work from afar.
3. How much does a Tuscany wedding cost?
Budgets vary widely, but many Tuscany destination weddings land somewhere between €40,000–€80,000+, with multi-day, higher-end weekends often in the €80,000–€140,000+ range (guest count, season, buyout nights, catering style and vendors make the biggest difference). If you’re planning a full weekend experience at a sought-after villa, accommodation + minimum nights can become a major line item.
4. Best time of year to get married in Tuscany?
The sweet spot is usually May–June and September–early October: warm but not oppressive, beautiful landscapes, and more comfortable guest experience than mid-summer. July/August can be stunning but hot and crowded; winter can be atmospheric and often better value, but with more weather uncertainty.
5. What’s the best ceremony time for light?
For the most flattering light, plan the ceremony later in the day, typically 2–3 hours before sunset (depending on venue orientation and hills/trees). Midday sun in Tuscany can be hard (high contrast, squinting), while late afternoon gives softer skin tones and a calmer, more cinematic feel.
6. How much is a wedding photographer in Tuscany?
Most couples see full-day wedding photography in Italy/Tuscany commonly fall in the €4.500–€7,500 range, with high-end editorial photographers and multi-day coverage often above that, sometimes significantly depending on scope, team, travel, and deliverables. The biggest price drivers are coverage length, multi-day events, second shooter and the level of curation/editing.
Good to know about Tuscany
Many villas and rural estates have strict rules on amplified music (often requiring music to move indoors and/or end around midnight, sometimes earlier depending on location and neighbors). If you want a longer party, choose a venue with a proven late-night setup, plan an indoor dance option, and build the timeline so the most energetic part of the evening happens before the cutoff.
To legally marry in Italy, foreign couples need specific documents like a valid passport, birth certificate, and a “Nulla Osta” – a certificate confirming that there are no legal impediments to marriage. An experienced planner who specializes in weddings in Tuscany or destination weddings in Italy can be a huge support here! Keep in mind: iconic places like the Abbazia San Galgano, while visually stunning, are not consecrated and therefore not available for church weddings.
Tuscany is surprisingly accessible. If you’re flying in, Florence and Pisa airports are your best options. But to reach many hidden Tuscan wedding venues, I highly recommend renting a car – especially as many beautiful villages and wedding locations in Tuscany are nestled in the hills and not directly connected to major transport hubs. From cities like Munich, you can reach Tuscany by car via the Brennero Pass in about 7 hours. Alternatively, traveling by train is also an option; Florence’s central station has great connections throughout the region.
