DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER ITALY

For couples who flew across an ocean for a reason.

I’m Sebastian Schwemmer — a destination wedding photographer based in Bavaria, Germany, with over a decade of experience photographing weddings across Italy’s most extraordinary regions.

If you’re based in the US or outside and planning a wedding in Italy, you already know this isn’t a simple decision. You’re coordinating across time zones, trusting vendors you’ve never met in person and planning one of the most important days of your life in a country you may have visited once or twice. The last thing you need is a photographer who adds to that complexity.

I work with a small number of couples each year — intentionally. That means clear communication, fast responses across time zones, and a calm, organised presence on your wedding day that lets you focus entirely on being there.

Documentary in approach. Editorial in eye. Completely unposed.

Why US Couples Choose Italy — and What That Actually Means for Your Photography

Italy isn’t just a backdrop. It’s a decision.

When couples fly from New York, London, Sydney or Munich to get married in Tuscany or at Lake Garda, the wedding usually looks different from the start. Guests travel with intention. The celebration unfolds across multiple days. There’s a welcome dinner, a morning-after brunch, moments in between that are just as meaningful as the ceremony itself.

That’s the kind of wedding I’m built for. Not just the two hours at the altar — but the full story. The nervous laughter before the ceremony. The way your grandmother looks at you during the first dance. The candlelit dinner that stretches past midnight because nobody wants it to end.

Italy gives all of that extraordinary light to work with. I just make sure none of it disappears.

Where I Work in Italy

Tuscany
Vineyards, hilltop villas, the Val d’Orcia. The most sought-after destination in Italy for a reason — and one of the regions I know most deeply as a photographer. → Wedding Photographer Tuscany · Wedding Venues Tuscany

Lake Garda
Northern Italy’s largest lake, with venues ranging from intimate waterfront villas to grand estate ceremonies. Extraordinary light from late afternoon onward. → Wedding Photographer Lake Garda · Wedding Venues Lake Garda

South Tyrol & The Dolomites
For couples who want the Alps — dramatic mountain backdrops, Alpine masserias, and a pace that feels completely removed from the rest of the world. → Wedding Photographer South Tyrol · Wedding Venues South Tyrol

Puglia
Southern Italy’s fastest-rising destination. Whitewashed masserias, ancient olive groves, and a warmth — in light and in culture — that is unlike anything further north. → Wedding Photographer Puglia · Wedding Venues Puglia

Lake Como & Beyond
One of the world’s most iconic wedding settings, and a region I travel to regularly for couples who want architecture, water and drama in a single frame. → Wedding Photographer Lake Como ·Wedding Venues Lake Como

What Working Together Actually Looks Like

Before the wedding
Once you reach out, I respond within 24–48 hours — regardless of time zone. We’ll schedule a video call to talk through your vision, venue, timeline and any questions you have. From there, I’ll send a detailed proposal and we go from there. No pressure, no sales script.

In the months before
I’ll check in as your wedding approaches — reviewing your timeline, flagging anything that might affect the photography, and making sure nothing gets left to chance. For US couples especially, I know how much can get lost across emails and time zones. I make sure it doesn’t.

On the day
I arrive early, work quietly, and stay until the story is finished. You won’t spend your wedding day being directed. You’ll spend it being present — and I’ll be there to capture what that looks like.

After
Your gallery is delivered within 6–8 weeks, fully edited in a consistent style. No heavy filters. No artificial processing. Just honest photographs that reflect how the day actually felt.

A Note on Logistics — For Couples Planning from the US

Planning a wedding in Italy from abroad comes with questions that go beyond photography. I’ve worked through enough of them to be genuinely useful.

Legal ceremonies vs. symbolic ceremonies
Most US couples opt for a symbolic ceremony in Italy and handle the legal paperwork back home. This is far simpler logistically and gives you complete freedom over the ceremony structure. I can walk you through what this looks like in practice.
Travel fees
I travel throughout Italy without additional travel fees for most regions. For more remote locations or multi-day commitments, I’ll outline everything transparently upfront. No surprises.
Time zone communication
I’m based in Bavaria (CET), which is 6–9 hours ahead of US time zones. I schedule calls in the morning my time — which works for most US evenings — and respond to emails within 24 hours regardless of when they arrive.
Currency & payment
Invoices are issued in EUR. Most US couples pay by international bank transfer or credit card. I’ll make this as frictionless as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

01.
How far in advance should US couples book a photographer for an Italy wedding?

12 to 18 months is the sweet spot for most Italy weddings, particularly for peak season dates between May and early October. The most sought-after venues book up fast, and photographer availability tends to follow the same curve. If you’re earlier in your planning process and haven’t locked in a date yet, it’s still worth reaching out — I can advise on which dates and seasons tend to work best photographically for your region of choice.

02.
Do you have experience working with US couples specifically?

Yes — a significant portion of my couples are based in the US, particularly on the East Coast and in California. I understand what the planning process looks like from across the Atlantic: the time zone gap, the reliance on video calls, the trust required to book a vendor you’ve never met in person. I take that seriously, and I try to make every step of the process feel as clear and straightforward as possible.

03.
What style of photography do you shoot?

Documentary at the core — I observe, anticipate and capture moments as they happen, without staging or constant direction. The result has an editorial quality: clean compositions, intentional use of natural light, images that feel considered without looking constructed. If you’ve ever looked at a wedding photo and thought “that looks exactly how it felt” — that’s what I’m going for.

04.
Do you travel to all regions of Italy?

Yes. My primary regions are Tuscany, Lake Garda, South Tyrol, Puglia and Lake Como — but I travel throughout Italy and across Europe. If your venue is somewhere I haven’t worked before, I’ll often arrive a day early to walk the grounds and understand the light and spaces before your day begins.

05.
Can you recommend wedding planners or other vendors in Italy?

Yes — and I’m happy to do this personally, tailored to your region, style and budget. A planner who’s perfect for an intimate Tuscan elopement may not be the right fit for a 120-person Puglia celebration. Reach out and we can talk through what you’re envisioning.

06.
What does your photography investment look like?

Full-day coverage in Italy typically starts at €5,500, with most destination wedding packages ranging from €7,000 to €10,000+ depending on coverage days, travel requirements and the overall scope of your wedding. I’ll send a detailed, transparent proposal after our first call — no hidden fees, no surprises.
