The Average Cost of a Wedding in Italy
Your total depends mostly on how many guests you invite and where you get married. These are the ranges I see most often:
- Intimate weddings and elopements usually land between €25,000 and €40,000.
- Celebrations with 40 to 80 guests usually cost between €35,000 and €80,000.
- Luxury weddings start at around €100,000.
These are euro figures, so what they come to in dollars, pounds, or Australian dollars will change a bit with the exchange rate.
Price Per Guest
A quick way to check your budget is the price per guest for a destination wedding in Italy. For a celebration with 40 to 80 guests, the ranges above work out to somewhere around €1,000 per guest once everything is included. Smaller weddings usually cost more per head, since the venue and the photographer cost about the same whether 20 or 80 people come.
Is a Destination Wedding in Italy Expensive?
It can be, but a lot of the cost is in your hands. Guest count, venue, and region can impact the total more than the fact that you’re getting married abroad.
Italy Wedding Cost Breakdown
Here is roughly where your money goes. Prices vary by region and season, so use these as a starting point.
- Venue hire runs from about €5,000 for a countryside property to €20,000 or more for a well known lakeside villa.
- Catering and drinks typically come to €160 to €300 per guest.
- Videography adds around €5,000 to €20,000 if you want a film as well as photos.
- Florals and styling range from €3,000 to €10,000, depending on how much you want.
- A wedding planner usually costs €3,000 to €20,000, depending on how much they handle.
- Guest accommodation and transport can add €2,000 to €8,000 if you’re covering shuttles or a welcome night.
Wedding Photographer Cost in Italy
Photography prices vary a lot between photographers, so here’s how mine looks. Full day coverage starts at €6,000, and multiple day coverage, such as a welcome dinner plus the wedding day, runs from €8,000 to €15,000 or more.
How the Region Changes the Price
Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast are at the top of the price range because of the glamour and the peak season demand. Tuscany and Umbria are more mid to high range. Sicily, Puglia and South Tyrol can be easier on your budget.
If you’re stuck between two regions, my Sicily vs Tuscany wedding comparison covers how they differ on cost, timing, and atmosphere. My guides on Lake Como, Sicily, and Tuscany show you the venues in each place, with capacities and pricing.

Hidden Costs of an Italy Wedding
Most people don’t think about these until the budget is already set. These are the hidden costs I see the most:
- If you’re coming from outside the EU, expect legal and administrative fees for things like document translations and town hall charges. My guide to planning a destination wedding in Italy covers the steps.
- Vendors who travel to your venue usually include their travel and accommodation in the quote, so the number can look higher than you expected.
- Currency conversion and international bank fees add up when you’re paying deposits in euros.
- A contingency buffer of about 8 to 10% of your total budget covers the surprises that come up every time.
Where To Spend and Where To Save
The details you’ll care about most are rarely the most expensive ones.
If you’re deciding where to put your money, I’d start with photography and the venue. A venue with real character already feels special before you add anything, and the photographs are what you’ll still be looking through decades from now.
The goal isn’t to have the most expensive wedding, but to have one that feels honest. You can see how I work on my Italy wedding photography page.
